I sometimes wonder, where do hospitals get those assistants who think it's perfectly fine to consent a woman during a contraction? Unless there is an emergency, he seriously needed more patience and understanding of the birthing process.
As a doula, I can confirm that many medical choices will depend on the hospital you are in. For example, many hospitals will not permit a woman with a ruptured amniotic sac ("vody otoshli") to labor outside the bed, and I don't like those hospitals - as soon as your client ruptures, she needs to be in bed. Yes, I can use that bed to go into 5-7 different positions, but still it's not as good as plain old standing up!
